Forum Title: sliding window stuck - hardware question
Hey, This is probably a dumb question. I have a sliding window that seems to be locked somehow in an open position. Attaching photos of a latch/lock looking thing on a similar window that I think is the culprit. The 2 close up photos are sideways, the problem is at the bottom of the window not the side. No idea how to fix it so the window will close. Thanks for your help!

Is the door sitting on a flat pad that extends inside and out? That is what it looks like and if correct then water is wicking inside through the concrete itself. Usually the door is raised up and exterior concrete does not extend into the house.

You should be able to grasp the window on the sides and lift it up as high as it will go, then pull the bottom of the sliding sash out of the frame, then the top will follow. Fix your button, then installation is the reverse.

Be sure and check the upper track for a protruding screw. These are often installed to prevent the sash from being lifted.
